Our team returned from Egbe, Nigeria, earlier this summer where we were frequently asked to extend warm greetings from the Egbe Hospital and workshop staff, the missionaries and the entire Egbe community for your continued partnership in the Revitalization of the Egbe Hospital complex -a true venture of faith of which YOU are a critical part.
Over the last two months we have been working on upgrading the Eye Center building located on the hospital campus. This has involved expanding the operating theater, re-roofing, tiling, replacing doors and windows, restrooms, examination rooms and painting.
We are making progress toward rebuilding the ECWA Schools of Nursing and Midwifery, also located on the hospital campus. Architectural designs have been completed, the land for new dormitories has been cleared, and over 20,000 cement blocks have been made in preparation for building. The overall plan will include the demolition and renovation of 65-year-old buildings; construction of new dormitories, dining hall and administration building; the installation of a water system; electric grid, and remodeling and equipping the classrooms.
While all this is going on, we are pleased that the hospital, which is training five Nigerian residents in the Family Medicine Residency Program, also renewed their accreditation. The hospital is accredited for Family Medicine training by the West African College of Physicians and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. Doctors who received training in Egbe Hospital in the past have gone on to be some of the current leaders of Family Medicine in Nigeria. This is very exciting and reinforces the vision of creating a teaching hospital known for integrity, medical excellence, and compassionate patient care provided by committed staff sharing the Gospel with all who come to the hospital.
In June we asked if you would commit to praying for our team at Egbe and specifically about our personnel needs as many of our missionaries will be ending their 2-3 year terms in December. Your prayer support is what allows us to continue to “press on” with this huge mission project which is now impacting thousands of lives within a 100-mile radius surrounding the Egbe Hospital region. Thank you for being part of this wonderful ministry.
