About ECWA Hospital Egbe

ECWA Hospital Egbe, a division of ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All), is a rural teaching hospital established in 1952 and located in Egbe, Kogi State, Nigeria. The hospital serves a 100-mile radius of villages and small towns. It is a 110-bed hospital on a 50-acre complex that includes five wards for patients, four operating rooms, a maternity ward, an Under-5 Clinic, an Eye Center, an HIV/AIDS counselling centre, a Physiotherapy clinic, and a Dental clinic.

The hospital runs a 24-hour emergency and intensive care unit. The hospital has an X-ray department with digital radiology including portable X-ray, outpatient and bedside ultrasound services, electrocardiography, gastroscopy, and HSG.

The hospital has a major focus on training 5-6 Nigerian family medicine resident doctors enrolled in the Family Medicine Residency Program, as well as supporting the 500 students enrolled in the ECWA College of Nursing Sciences, Egbe located on the hospital campus, which graduates 125 students each year. The Family Medicine Residency program at ECWA Hospital Egbe seeks to develop physicians with a heart to minister the gospel through excellence in patient care.

Changing Lives Through The Gospel

Guided by the motto “Christ Heals,” ECWA Hospital Egbe meets both the physical and spiritual needs of patients. A team of five Chaplains is committed to providing counselling, Biblical teaching, conducting patient follow-ups, engaging in community outreach and offering pastoral oversight. Their primary goal is to ensure that every patient who seeks treatment at the hospital hears the Gospel message.

Hospital History

1952 • Hospital Founded

Founded by SIM missionaries Dr. George and Esther Campion, the hospital began to take shape as locals and missionaries worked together to construct the first clinic buildings.

1955 • Nursing School Established

To meet the growing need for trained healthcare workers, the nursing school was established in 1955 and housed in a beautifully crafted stone building.

1975 • SIM Transfers to ECWA

The entire medical complex was officially transferred from SIM to the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), solidifying a legacy of partnership and dedicated medical service.

2010 • Revitalization Project Starts

A comprehensive revitalisation project was launched to rebuild and restore the hospital, bringing modern infrastructure and new structural frameworks to the historic medical complex.
